One of the ways that I like to journal is to track down some of the things that I’ve learned. Today’s prompt is pretty simple and open-ended, but I think it’s a great way to take stock and reflect on what has happened in the past week through the perspective of learning new things.
Learning can be anything from learning new information about the world or about people. It can also be about yourself: learning a new skill, learning about what you like or don’t like. It can also be about learning about something you didn’t know you were capable of.
For myself, here are some things that I’ve learned recently:
I learned about the difference between feeling despondent vs disheartened
(despondent - feeling hopeless or discouraged about the future, deeper more profound sense, lack of motivation or belief in improvement.
disheartened - temporary feeling of discouragement or disappointment, but still a possibility of regaining motivation or hope.)I’m learning that there are more people who depend on me than I thought and I need to take ownership of that.
I learned that when getting back into hobbies, it’s okay to not jump into them right away, and to find the one that is most aligned with your mood.
I learned that revisiting old favorites, like listening to my favorite albums in middle school or playing Animal Crossing like how I did in 2020, are easy ways to feel joy again.
I learned that I really like the electronic band Lamb - something about the ambience, the declarative lyrics about love, combined with the melancholic sound, really draws me to their music.
I learned that I can only wake up at 7am for work, not for the desire to be more productive on a non-work day.
I learned that what I do with journaling really does matter, that people are curios about journaling, and what I share matters.
I hope this prompt provides you with ideas on how to reflect on the things you’ve recently learned.
Recent News:
Last Thursday, I had the wonderful opportunity to host a “Daily Journaling Practices” workshop with the Cypress Senior Center! It was a great turnout and participants had a lot of great takeaways from the event!
Participants shared that journaling felt easier, they felt more organized in how to start off their day, and they learned more journaling practices that they can try based on how they’re feeling.
Thank you so much to all of you who participated in this workshop! I feel so encouraged and so empowered to keep doing this work!
Stay tuned for more - this will be part of the foundations for a future course that I’m working on in the near future ;)
