One of my favorite ways to journal is through using prompts. Today, I wanted to share a book that I sometimes use for journaling.
This is To Bless the Space Between Us by John O'Donohue. It's a collection of blessings for various thresholds in life—like getting married, starting a new job, or even for more personal feelings, such as loneliness or making important decisions.
One of my favorite pages is less of a blessing, and more of a series of questions. The page is titled, “At the End of the Day - A Mirror of Questions” - and as the title suggests, it’s essentially a list of questions for reflection at the of the day.
For today’s journaling prompt, take a look at John O'Donohue's poem, At the End of the Day – A Mirror of Questions. Choose ONE question that resonates with you today, and write about what’s speaking to you at the end of the day.
For me, sometimes it’s hard to write about what happened during the day. Sometimes there are too many things that happened, or too few. Sometimes my mind still feels unfocused or troubled by what occurred. And sometimes, I just forget what happened.
I love these questions because, for me—especially as a Christian—they help me reflect on how I’m feeling internally, how my interactions with people went today, and most of all, on how I gave love to those in need. It adds a layer of intentionality to reflecting at the end of the day.
I hope this poem serves as a meaningful repertoire of questions to reflect on at the end of the day, especially on the days when reflection feels difficult or heavy.
